Helping families enrich their children
St. Thomas More is very proud of its Preschool program which is designed to be an extension of the family. Our program has been carefully developed for the enrichment of the whole child within a loving, Catholic environment. We give special attention to the developmental stages, skills and needs of our children, while encouraging and nurturing each child’s God-given talents. Our goal is to make preschool a positive, rewarding and fun, growing experience for the child; intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
Hours of operation are 9:30 a.m. (drop off) to 1:30 p.m. (pick up). In addition to the time spent in their classroom, the children also participate in music, physical education, worship and once a week for 15-25 minutes depending on the age group; the older children attend for longer periods of time. These “specials” are instructed by other teachers so they also learn to transition from their classroom to other areas of the schools and/or other classrooms.
The children enjoy a light snack in the early morning and then have lunch later in the morning. Parents must pack their lunch for them since the preschool does not have a cafeteria staff. Snack is rotated through the parents of the 18 month and 2 1/2 year old classes and you will get a turn to bring snack for the entire class; normally once or twice a month. The 3 and 4 Year old children bring their own healthy snack and water bottle.
Our classes are limited to 8 children with a teacher and an assistant for the 18 month olds to 12-13 children with a teacher and an assistant for all other age groups. The teachers and the assistants are all licensed and are required to participate in 25 hours of training annually. This training includes CPR, child abuse prevention as well as other academic and related areas that assist them with working with young children. All staff members have passed a background and fingerprint check and are required to attend Ethics and Integrity in Ministry training through the Diocese of Austin.
The preschool has two spacious playgrounds with safe and age appropriate equipment. We also have several riding toys that the children use on the cemented area of the playgrounds. In addition, the playgrounds are shaded so we are able to use them year round. The children get outside playtime every day; on bad weather days we do not take the children outdoors.
