The Gabriel Project is the Good Samaritan approach toward helping pregnant women in need; it is a movement of churches standing together in their willingness to offer assistance to women facing crisis pregnancies. The Gabriel Project Life Center offers free pregnancy tests to women in need on Saturday mornings at East 6th Street and Chicon in Austin. Call 238-1246 or Diocesan-wide 1-877-WE CARE 2 to schedule a test; walk-ins are welcome. A central phone number is available to receive help from both Project Rachel and Gabriel Project. Trained volunteers are scheduled to answer the phone calls, which are forwarded into the volunteer's home. All inquiries are kept confidential.
Annunciation Maternity Home is located in Georgetown and offers long-term housing to pregnant girls and women with or without children. The home has a charter school for its residents and non-residents who qualify.
Our Lady of the Angels Maternity Shelter was formed due to the Gabriel Project's need to find housing for homeless pregnant women. Located in Temple, it serves the Central Texas area. It is licensed, incorporated and has 501c3 status.
