About Communitas
Communitas is a new ministry at St. Thomas More founded to help enrich the spiritual life of the community through the formation and encouragement of small faith communities.

Small Faith Communities are groups of 8 to 10 people who come together on a regular basis to:

  • Reflect on life in light of the Gospel
  • Share in prayer, discussion and reflection
  • Support one another in living as disciples of Christ

Initial phase

  • Groups will meet weekly for 1-1/2 hour sessions
  • Groups will use a resource book to guide their prayer, discussion and faith sharing
  • Groups will meet over a six week period

On-going formation

  • At the end of the initial phase, everyone will be invited to continue meetings within their small groups
  • Groups will be provided resources and suggestions for further study
  • The Communitas Core Team will provide on-going support, training and resources for the small faith communities of the parish

Each spring and fall, a kickoff meeting will be held to introduce the new reflection theme, and invite new parishioners into the group.

A small faith community is…

  • A chance to grow in faith
  • An opportunity to meet others in the parish community
  • A chance to grow in awareness of how God is present and working in your life, and how you are responding to God

A small faith community is not…

  • A theology course
  • A counseling session
  • A replacement for participation in the larger life of the parish
  • Similar to other ministries at St. Thomas More, the long term success of Communitas will depend on the continuing support and commitment of other lay parishioners who feel called to take an active part in the Core Team. Please contact Dawn Rouen at 258-1944 ext. 235 if you are interested in serving on the Core Team.
